Fox Sports 1 is gunning for ESPN. The new sports network just announced its "starting 5," i.e. its on-air talent, for its nightly flagship program, "Fox Sports Live."
The program will be a likely competitor to ESPN's "SportsCenter" and has gotten some A-list sports talent, alongside some former ESPN personalities. The initial go-around for the program will include:
The show will be anchored by Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole, both formerly anchored in the 1 a.m. "SportsCenter" slot.
?We are so excited to welcome Gary, Donovan and Ephraim to FOX Sports and we?re thrilled to have Charissa back in the family,? said Fox Sports Executive Vice President, Studio Production, Scott Ackerson.
"The group officially unveiled today, with Andy, represents some of the best in their fields, and we are confident that they?ll provide a fresh, unique perspective to the sports news of the day, creating engaging and entertaining television.?
The show will go live nightly on Aug. 17. The fledgling sports network may pose a threat to ESPN's domination of the sports market. The Disney-owned sports network's ratings have dropped significantly, 32 percent year-over-year during its April-to-June quarter. ESPN was recently part of Disney's attempt to become leaner and saw layoffs of between 300 and 400 employees. In the coming months, we'll see if the layoffs were foresight or folly as the two networks move forward.
